In a world where companies are trying to push their own launchers, Blizzard Entertainment is apparently trying a different strategy. Despite having its well-established Battle.net launcher for Blizzard Activision games, Overwatch 2 is now heading to Steam on August 10. It’s probably not a huge surprise since Overwatch 2 is a free-to-play game, and having it available on Steam just exposes it many more potential players. But Overwatch 2 may not be the only Blizzard game heading to Steam.
“We’re excited to announce that we are bringing a selection of our games to Steam, starting with Overwatch 2… which will be available on the platform on August 10,” Blizzard wrote in a news post on the Overwatch 2 Steam product page. President Mike Ybarra did say that Battle.net remains a priority for the company, but Blizzard has “heard players want the choice of Steam for a selection” of Blizzard’s games.
The company has not yet disclosed which games are coming next to Steam, but did say it will share more about potential other games when the time is right. For the time being, only Overwatch 2 will be available on Steam, starting August 10.
