When the Xbox One and its controversial policies were first announced earlier this year, the next-generation console quickly earned the nickname “Xbone.” Microsoft hasn’t been such a fan of the nickname, especially Larry Hryb, more commonly known as Major Nelson. Hryb, who is the director of programming for Microsoft’s Xbox Live, recently posted about the Xbone name, feeling that it disrespects the members of the team that has poured thousands of hours developing the product.
For obvious reasons, Microsoft has acquired the domain name Xbone.com and no domain dispute was ever filed by the company. It’s unclear if the previous owner of the domain name was paid for it, or if some sort of agreement was made for the company to obtain the rights to it.
The domain simply forwards you to a Bing search page for the term Xbone. If Microsoft was clever, it’d take advantage of the nickname to educate and inform consumers on why the Xbox One is a better choice for the next generation.
