Donkey Kong Country Returns, originally released on the Wii in 2010, is getting an HD remaster that will launch on the Nintendo Switch on January 16, 2025. Donkey Kong Country Returns HD will feature 80 levels, including extra ones from the Nintendo 3DS version. The adventure brings Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong back to the main stage, as the villainous Tiki Tak Tribe has stolen Donkey Kong’s banana hoard. The game will support two-player co-op for double the fun, with one player controlling Donkey Kong and the other controlling Diddy Kong. Of course, you’ll be able to experience the adventure solo as well.

Today’s announcement trailer showcases some of the hijinks in the game, from stomping obstacles to careening minecarts, flying rocket barrels, and everyone’s favorite rhino, Rambi. Donkey Kong Country Returns is a great successor to the original Donkey Kong Country from 1994 on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, but hopefully, another new Donkey Kong Country game is in the works—we’re guessing it’ll be for the Switch 2.
