Earlier today, Jake Kulinski and Whitson Gordon from ROG Pulse celebrated the one-year anniversary of the ROG Ally and teased new hardware set to officially debut on June 2. “This is going to be more than just a basic refresh with like one spec change,” said Whitson Gordon in today’s stream. “It’s not a full redesign or a totally new generation, it’s somewhere in between these two things.” Because of that, the new device will be named ASUS ROG Ally X, not ASUS ROG Ally 2, which is likely to be released at a later date.

The ASUS ROG Ally X is described as an enhanced ASUS ROG Ally, built for enthusiasts seeking extra features; nearly all aspects of the device are the result of community feedback. Expect a noticeable improvement on battery life, storage, RAM, and ports. However, the device will retain the same VRR screen and AMD Z1 Extreme chipset as the current ASUS ROG Ally.

If you look carefully, a black unit on the second shelf to the far left stands out among the numerous white ASUS ROG Ally units in the rest of the photo. For now, we’ll just have to wait until June 2 for the official announcement.

The next ROG Ally is coming…
