Can’t believe it’s already September? Yeah, neither can we. Although 2024 hasn’t been as exciting as 2023 for new video game releases, the year hasn’t exactly been disappointing either. September features a wide variety of releases across multiple genres, so there’s a good chance something will interest you. Personally, I’m looking forward to Astro Bot, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, Satisfactory exiting Early Access, The Plucky Squire, Frostpunk 2, and The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom. If only there was more time in the day to enjoy all these games.

Here’s our selection of the top games to play in September 2024 if you’re looking for recommendations.

Age of Mythology: Retold

Age of Mythology: Retold

Age of Mythology: Retold comes from the same creators as the Age of Empires franchise. The spinoff puts players in a world where gods, monsters, and humans collide, allowing them to choose from the Greek, Norse, Egyptian, and Atlantean pantheons.

Age of Mythology: Retold releases on September 4 for Xbox Series X|S and PC.

Astro Bot

Astro Bot

For those who couldn’t get enough of Astro’s Playroom on PlayStation 5, Astro Bot is coming with over 50 planets of fun. This supersized adventure celebrates 30 years of PlayStation history with over 150 iconic PlayStation heroes and plenty of new abilities for Astro Bot to use. Of course, the game will take full advantage of the DualSense wireless controller and show off what it’s really capable of.

Ace Attorney Investigations Collection

Ace Attorney Investigations Collection

Ace Attorney fans will not want to miss this collection, which includes both Ace Attorney Investigations games given the full HD treatment. There are also newly designed chibi characters, and players can choose the classic pixel art style if they prefer. The collection also boasts quality of life improvements, including Chapter Select, Autoplay, and Story Mode.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2

Step into the shoes of a brutal Space Marine and defend the Imperium in this third-person action game. Play solo or in three-player co-op as you take on swarms of Tyranids. Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 features six classes—Tactical, Assault, Vanguard, Bulwark, Sniper, and Heavy—with plenty of skills and cosmetics to unlock. Once you’re tired of the campaign, you can take on 6v6 PvP matches.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 releases on September 9 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Satisfactory

Satisfactory

Satisfactory is finally exiting Early Access and getting its official 1.0 release. This first-person open-world factory building game takes Factorio to a new level, letting players explore and build on a giant alien planet. This has been one of our favorite games to revisit each year during its Early Access phase, and we can’t wait to see what the game has in store for launch.

Satisfactory exits Early Access on September 10 for PC.

Test Drive Unlimited: Solar Crown

Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown

One of the oldest racing franchises, Test Drive’s next entry is Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown. The game aims to redefine the open-world racing genre with a fully recreated 1:1-scale Hong Kong Island experience. Over 30 automakers are represented with a wide variety of cars, ranging from 1960s daily drivers to Koenigsegg hypercars.

Test Drive Unlimited: Solar Crown releases on September 12 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, and PC.

Final Fantasy XVI

Final Fantasy XVI

The latest entry in the long-running Final Fantasy franchise, Final Fantasy XVI, finally makes it to PC. We reviewed the game and both its DLCs, Echoes of the Fallen and The Rising Tide, noting that it offers some of the highest highs in all of gaming, but also some of the lowest lows. If you play Final Fantasy XIV, you have a good idea of what to expect, as it closely follows Creative Studio III’s formula.

Final Fantasy XVI releases on September 17 for PC.

The Plucky Squire

The Plucky Squire

Our excitement for The Plucky Squire continues to grow as we get closer to its release and learn more about this charming title. It’s from developer All Possible Futures and it tells the story of Jot who leaps from the pages of his 2D storybook world into a 3D realm. PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium subscribers will get access to the game at its launch.

The Plucky Squire releases on September 17 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, and PC.

Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster

Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster releases on September 18 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

God of War Ragnarök

God of War Ragnarök

Sony’s God of War Ragnarök is another highly anticipated PC release, the sequel to 2018’s God of War that released on PC in 2022. Continue the journey of Kratos and Atreus as they are joined by new friends and foes. On PC, the game will support 21:9 ultra-widescreen and 32:9 super ultra-widescreen, as well as NVIDIA RTX DLSS, AMD FSR, and Intel XeSS.

God of War Ragnarök releases on September 19 for PC.

Frostpunk 2

Frostpunk 2

Another highly anticipated sequel, Frostpunk 2 finally launches on PC after a delay. It arrives over six years after the release of the original, which has sold over five million copies. Frostpunk 2 aims to take the city-survival genre to a new level with a multi-chapter story set in the frozen wastes. Ara: History Untold

Ara: History Untold

Ara: History Untold is a grand strategy game where players must build a nation and lead their people through history. Its foundation starts with familiar classic PC strategy mechanics, but it builds on these with innovative features such as a national crafting economy, true simultaneous turn system, and a non-linear technology tree.

Ara: History Untold releases on September 24 for PC.

Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed

Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed

The lovely Disney Epic Mickey is getting a remake titled Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed. Guide the iconic Mickey Mouse through Wasteland, a realm of forgotten Disney characters. Armed with paint, thinner, and a magical brush, help Mickey change the fate of this alternate world.

GreedFall II: The Dying World

GreedFall II: The Dying World

Yet another sequel for September, players can jump back into the world of GreedFall again with GreedFall II: The Dying World. The game is actually a prequel though, as the events take place three years before the original GreedFall. The all-new adventure takes players through the lands of the Old Continent, from the Star City of Olima to the mysterious shores of Uxantis.

Greedfall 2 releases on September 24 for PC.

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom

For many, the star of the month comes at the end of September with The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom. Echoes of Wisdom, which appears to be a 2D take on Tears of the Kingdom, puts players in Zelda’s shoes and arms her with unique mechanics, such as the ability to recreate imitations of objects found in the environment. She’ll also have the Bind and Reverse Bond powers, making objects follow her movements, or allowing her to follow an object’s movements. We expect The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom to be a strong Game of the Year contender.

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom releases on September 26 for Switch.
