Xbox has unveiled a new Wireless Controller called the Remix Special Edition. At first glance, you would think it’s heavily influenced by the Halo series with its green theme, but the Remix Special Edition controller features recovered plastics with one-third of it made from regrind and reclaimed materials. As a result, each Remix Special Edition controller has a unique look and feel, resulting from the process of mixing post-consumer recycled resins with regrind from previously molded parts. The earth-toned colors will exhibit subtle variations, swirls, markings, and textures.
If you’re unfamiliar with regrinding, it’s the process of mechanically recycling leftover Xbox One-generation controller parts into raw material that can be used to contribute to the production of new controllers. The post-consumer recycled resins used in the Remix Special Edition controller are sourced from reclaimed materials such as automotive headlight covers, plastic water jugs, and even CDs — remember those?
In designing the controller, Xbox said it drew inspiration from natural landscapes, and the physical world. The bright green Xbox button, D-pad, and front case color are actually inspired by lichen found in Pacific Northwest forests. Meanwhile, the bumpers, triggers, and side grip areas feature a topographic texture pattern, paying homage to the earth’s dynamic landscape.
The controller comes with an Xbox Rechargeable Battery Pack that provides up to 30 hours of battery life per charge. Like all other Xbox Wireless Controllers, the Remix Special Edition can connect to other devices via Bluetooth, so you can use it on PC or mobile devices.
You can pre-order the Remix Special Edition Xbox Wireless Controller for $84.99, with a release date set for April 18. If the asking price is too high, you may want to check out the sale Xbox is currently having for all its other controllers.
