The developers behind MultiVersus, Player First Games, have been acquired by Warner Bros. Games. The acquisition comes less than two months after MultiVersus relaunched, following the abrupt shutdown of its beta in June 2023. As a result of the acquisition, Player First Games will continue to operate under co-founders Tony Huynh and Chris White, who will now report to Carlos Barbosa, Vice President and Studio Head of Warner Bros. Games San Diego.

“We have worked with Player First Games over several years to create and launch MultiVersus, and we are very pleased to welcome this talented team to Warner Bros. Games,” said David Haddad, President, Warner Bros. Games. “The bright and creative team at Player First Games adds to our extensive development capabilities.”

The announcement comes just as the game readies for Season 2, which launches tomorrow, July 23. Season 2 adds Samurai Jack and Beetlejuice (at a later date) to the Super Smash Bros.-like brawler game, along with a Ranked Mode.
