It’s almost hard to believe we’re nearing the end of the year, but video game awards season is upon us. The nominations for the 43rd annual Golden Joystick Awards have been announced, and voting is now open in 21 categories. This year, there’s a new award for Best Remake/Remaster, and we’re shocked not to see Final Fantasy Tactics – The Ivalice Chronicles (which I loved) nominated. While you’d think it’s because of its more recent release, Battlefield 6 is showing up for best multiplayer game, and Ghost of Yōtei was nominated for best audio design.
Voting will remain open until October 31, 2025, at 5:00 PM Pacific (8:00 PM Eastern), and the Ultimate Game of the Year shortlist will be announced on November 3. Voting for that category will go live the same day.
The winners of the Golden Joystick Awards 2025 will be announced at an awards ceremony on November 20. The event will also include awards that aren’t part of the voting, including the Breakthrough Award and the Critics’ Choice Award. Those winners will be selected by a panel of journalists from brands including gamesradar.com, pcgamer.com, FGS, Edge magazine, Retro Gamer, and Future’s trusted network of freelance writers.
This year has been amazing for gaming, from the wonderful Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, one of the best games I’ve ever played, to indie standouts like Blue Prince and Caves of Qud.
