Xbox Series X|S console owners will have a new option for repair starting January 20, when uBreakiFix by Asurion will become the first Xbox Authorized Service Provider with nearly 700 participating store locations in the U.S. Currently, Xbox console repairs can only be done through the Microsoft Store, so the addition of uBreakiFix will make it more convenient for console owners to get service. In addition, replacement components for the Xbox Series X|S consoles can now be purchased through the Microsoft Store, along with replacement console parts at the Microsoft Repair Hub on iFixit. Previously, the purchase of replacement components was limited to controller parts and was only available through the Microsoft Store.
The move to provide more options for repair is part of Xbox and Microsoft’s focus on being a zero-waste, carbon-negative, and water-positive company by 2030. Additional ways for repair help extend the longevity of Xbox devices, subsequently reducing waste and promoting re-use. The company also has a goal of eliminating single-use plastics from its packaging this year—packaging for the three Xbox Series X|S consoles is already fully paper and fiber-based without single-use plastics.
