Ubisoft has announced the acquisition of Amazon’s Montreal game studio and the game it’s working on, March of Giants. March of Giants is a free-to-play 4v4 MOBA featuring early-1900s technology. It puts a twist on the MOBA genre by adding real-time strategy elements and lane-based combat that emphasize large-scale coordination and mastery of the game’s giant heroes.
What’s interesting about the acquisition is that it brings back some key former Ubisoft team members. This includes senior production lead Alex Parizeau, who was the former managing director at Ubisoft Toronto. Another notable figure is Xavier Marquis, who was the original creative director behind Rainbow Six Siege. He currently serves as the creative director for March of Giants.
“Returning to Ubisoft brings things full circle,” said Xavier Marquis, Creative Director. “We built some of our most meaningful work here, and we’re excited to continue developing March of Giants from within Ubisoft. This game has enormous potential, and I know Ubisoft can help us take it to the next level.”
