Back in December, Nihon Falcom confirmed Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter was targeting a fall 2026 release window. The remake of Nihon Falcom’s beloved sequel now has a release date of September 17, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Switch, Switch 2, and PC. That’s just two days shy of the one-year anniversary of Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter.
Alongside the date, GungHo dropped a new trailer and revealed seven more additions to the English voice cast, bringing the total to 15 named characters. Stephanie Sheh (Estelle Bright), Johnny Yong Bosch (Joshua Bright), Matthew Mercer (Olivier Lenheim), and the rest of the previously announced cast are all back. Joining them are Cassandra Lee Morris as Anelace Elfead, Ray Chase as Kevin Graham, Patrick Seitz as Mueller Vander, Gabriella Certo as Julia Schwarz, Stephen Fu as Leonhardt, Liam O’Brien as Georg Weissmann, and Courtney Lin as Renne. That’s a stacked lineup of anime and JRPG voice acting talent.
As for the story, 2nd Chapter picks up right after the events of the first game. Estelle sets out to find Joshua after he mysteriously disappears, and the conspiracy quickly grows beyond Liberl Kingdom into the wider continent of Zemuria. The Enforcers of Ouroboros remain the central threat. Like the first remake, this one brings modernized visuals, reorchestrated music, quality-of-life improvements, and full English and Japanese voice acting.
Preorders are open now in two editions. The Standard Edition runs $59.99 for PlayStation 5 and Switch, or $64.99 for the Switch 2 Edition. The Steam version will be available digitally at launch. The Golden Wings Edition, a premium collector’s bundle, is up for preorder at trails2ndchapter.com and store.panaxgames.com.
Switch owners can bump up to the Switch 2 Edition later with a $4.99 Upgrade Pack. A Season Pass covering cosmetic DLC is also planned for PlayStation 5, Switch, and PC, with pricing to come. A Digital Deluxe edition that bundles the Season Pass will follow at a later date.
If you somehow haven’t checked out Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter yet, you’ve got about five months to make it through. The remake pulled Metacritic averages of 87 on PlayStation 5, 90 on Switch 2, and 89 on PC, along with an “Overwhelmingly Positive” user rating on Steam, so there’s plenty of reason to dive in ahead of the sequel.
