The Tokyo Xtreme Racer franchise is making a return to PlayStation, with the latest entry now in development for PlayStation 5. Having been in Steam Early Access since January 23, 2025, the game reached version 1.0 today, September 24. Tokyo Xtreme Racer has been well received by fans, currently sitting on Steam with an Overwhelmingly Positive user rating and over 8,000 reviews at the time of writing. The long-running series dates back to 1994 and saw numerous entries before taking a break after two mobile launches in 2011 and 2017.

Tokyo Xtreme Racer is set in a sealed-off future Tokyo, where players compete for the fastest speed in a variety of customized cars on the highways that weave through the city. The game features recreated courses, officially licensed vehicles, and more. One of the series’ most iconic features is the Shuto Expressway, with complex twists and dramatic elevation that mirror the real-world roadway. It’s more of an arcade-style racer than a simulation, with a full-fledged story.

Unfortunately, no release date for the PlayStation 5 version has been announced yet.
