There’s a dead body at the Edmund Mansion, and Agents Ray and Reyes are back to investigate it. Thimbleweed Park 2 is coming in 2028, and the announcement goes out of its way to avoid calling it a sequel. It isn’t really a prequel either. The pitch is that it’s simply more Thimbleweed Park, and just as weird as the first one.
The setup is a point-and-click spoof of a classic whodunit, with everyone in the mansion a suspect and a murderer the detectives will confront, assuming you can find them. The announcement does rule out one suspect up front. It’s not the butler. By the end of another long, strange night in Thimbleweed Park, the promise is that you’ll come away with more questions than answers, which is roughly how the original went too.
The first Thimbleweed Park came out in 2017 following a Kickstarter from Maniac Mansion co-creators Ron Gilbert and Gary Winnick, with Gilbert also being the creator of the Monkey Island series. Developed and published by Terrible Toybox, it was a point-and-click adventure in the classic LucasArts style, built around five playable characters, a zany supporting cast, distinctive pixel art, and an absurd mystery that got weirder with every twist. A free mini-adventure called Delores followed in 2020. Wishlists are now open on Steam.
