Yesterday, Elden Ring Nightreign launched on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, and quickly catapulted to the top of the Steam concurrent players chart, hitting a peak of 313,593 players. Although it currently holds a Mixed rating based on nearly 13,000 user reviews on Steam at the time of writing, FromSoftware announced that Elden Ring Nightreign reached two million players on its first day. Since the game isn’t available on services like Game Pass, those figures essentially equate to sales.
Considering how popular Elden Ring is, these sales numbers aren’t too surprising. But Nightreign is mainly a co-op experience, since playing solo right now feels off-balanced. The Elden Ring Nightreign experience is designed for three players, but the lack of cross-play has been a pain point for some—but clearly not enough to impact sales. While we enjoyed a few runs last night, performance on my gaming PC, which I recently upgraded with an RTX 5090, has been frustrating, with inconsistent frame-rate drops and stuttering issues. Still, we’re looking forward to spending time over the weekend as a group of three to really dig in. Look for our Elden Ring Nightreign review sometime next week.
