If your first experience with the Granblue Fantasy franchise was through the anime, the surprisingly fun Granblue Fantasy: Relink, or the Granblue Fantasy Versus fighting games, you now have a chance to see where it all started. The original Granblue Fantasy is finally launching on Steam, 12 years after its initial release in Japan. Unfortunately, those who have been playing the mobile or web version in Japanese won’t be able to link their accounts to the Steam version. In fact, the Steam version is exclusive to players outside of Japan and certain regions.

Granblue Fantasy comes from Cygames, the same developer behind Umamusume: Pretty Derby, which won Best Mobile Game at The Game Awards 2025. It’s an RPG featuring turn-based battles and a class system, with a variety of single-player and multiplayer content, including raids. It’ll be interesting to see how the Steam release is handled, whether it follows an accelerated schedule or makes all the content available at once. I’m going to guess it’s the latter because catching up to 12 years of content sounds impossible. Then again, dumping that much content at once might also be way too overwhelming for new players.
