HBO has released the official teaser for The Last of Us Season 2 today in celebration of The Last of Us Day. The annual event, which coincides with the day the cordyceps virus outbreak began in The Last of Us, is now in its 11th year. It’s our first in-depth look at the Season 2 cast, which includes Pedro Pascal as Joel, Bella Ramsey as Ellie, Gabriel Luna as Tommy, Rutina Wesley as Maria, Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Isabela Merced as Dina, Young Mazino as Jesse, Ariela Barer as Mel, Tati Gabrielle as Nora, Spencer Lord as Owen, Danny Ramirez as Manny, and Jeffrey Wright as Isaac. Catherine O’Hara also guest stars.
The Last of Us Season 2 is set to debut in 2025 on HBO and will be available to stream on Max. It follows the highly successful first season, which was nominated for 24 Emmys. Based on the teaser, the series will continue to stay faithful to the game and is set five years after the events of the first season. The show continues to be written and executive produced by Craig Mazin and Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann, so it remains in good hands.
I consider the original The Last of Us one of the best games I’ve ever played, and while the sequel had many technical improvements, it felt drawn out and a bit tedious at times. Regardless, I’m excited to see how they adapt the events of the second game to the series and what changes they decide to make.
