The weeklong, 24-hour video game speedrunning marathon Summer Games Done Quick has officially raised $2,436,614 for Doctors Without Borders. This year’s event was held from July 6 to July 13 at the Hilton Minneapolis in Minnesota, drawing over 2,600 in-person attendees and many more watching on Games Done Quick’s Twitch channel. This year, some of the most popular speedruns included Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, Balatro, Super Mario Maker 2, Blue Prince, Mario Kart World, Beat Saber, and more. One highlight was the AEW Fight Forever segment, which had the audience raising signs and screaming with excitement as if they were watching a real wrestling match.
This year saw the premiere of an all-new artist alley starring artists, makers, crafters, and indie game developers, as well as a live concert by the band The Megas. For those who have never heard of Games Done Quick, it’s a series of charity video game marathons with some of the world’s best speedrunners raising money for charity. Some of the charities it supports include AbleGamers, Doctors Without Borders, Organization for Autism Research, and Prevent Cancer Foundation. The organization’s next event is the all-women and femmes speedrunning showcase, Flame Fatales, from September 7 to September 14. To date, Games Done Quick events have raised over $57 million for charity.
