Well, it’s real, folks. Developer Unknown Worlds has confirmed Subnautica is coming to Android and iOS on July 8, 2025, with a normal price of $9.99. Currently, you can preorder or pre-register and get 10 percent off the launch price ($8.99). The popular survival game, originally released in 2018, takes players on an underwater adventure on an alien ocean planet. It’s a sprawling and mysterious world to explore, packed full of surprises and an atmosphere that very few games offer. The mobile launch will have Survival, Freedom, and Creative gameplay modes, so players can get the experience they prefer.

The gameplay loop is similar to other crafting survival games, where players have to manage water, food, and craft equipment to not only survive but expand their area of exploration. The ocean is filled with all sorts of different resources, and base building gets a twist with its underwater setting. What really sets Subnautica apart from other games in the genre, though, is its compelling story. There’s a lot to discover in the game, and it’s a big reason why it currently has an Overwhelmingly Positive review rating on Steam with over 280,000 user reviews.

Unknown Worlds worked closely with Playdigious on the mobile port, redesigning and optimizing the game for the platform. That includes an exclusive mobile UI with touch controls, Game Center achievements, Cloud Saves, so players can share progress between different devices, MFi controller compatibility, and optimization for iPhone 15, including Pro Max.

The announcement comes as Subnautica 2 is set to arrive sometime in 2025 on Xbox Game Preview and in Early Access. The sequel made its debut at the Xbox Partner Preview in October 2024, and there’s a good chance we’ll hear more about it in June.
