The Steam Box is coming. Valve has put up a new teaser website for its upcoming gaming console which is assumed to use Big Picture mode to bring PC gaming to the living room.
The big question is if the Steam Box will just merely be a tiny Linux PC that hooks up to a television. Since, you know, that’s something any gaming enthusiast could build on their own. But Steam could be looking at manufacturing a system that will be compatible with all its Linux titles (about 200 games) at an affordable price, or even at a loss, in order to get more gamers using Steam on Linux. Obviously the more gamers using Steam for Linux, the more developers will be inclined to develop games for Linux.
Regardless, more information is coming next week according to the teaser website, which has a countdown on it. It appears that there will be three countdowns in total, so expect an initial announcement early next week with more details rolled out in the future.
And if you had any doubts that the announcement that’s coming is for the Steam Box, the controller being teased is a dead giveaway.
