Despite getting a six-week delay, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is still looking pretty rough at launch especially on PC. We were already a bit alarmed when we saw the 155 GB storage requirements for the game, which suggested it wasn’t very well optimized. Unsurprisingly, that seems to be the case based on Steam user reviews and professional reviews, such as Skill Up’s, who absolutely cannot recommend the game on PC.
Unfortunately, it seems like EA knew this was coming. The publisher preemptively tweeted on Wednesday that “in the weeks ahead,” the game would be getting patches to fix bugs, improve performance, and add more accessibility features. At the time of publishing, there was over 2,800 user reviews on Steam with a Mostly Negative rating. If you have the option of playing Star Wars Jedi: Survivor on console, it seems to be the better way to go. Just a fair warning, it’s not completely void of bugs and performance issues on console either.
The rocky launch of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor on PC follows The Last of Us Part I’s PC launch, which was basically a disaster. Even now, with multiple patches, the game is sitting on Steam with a Mixed rating.
The worrying part about another rough launch for a highly-anticipated title is that this has become more accepted and normalized these days. Redfall is launching with only 30 fps modes and promises performance modes with 60 fps will come at a later date. Instead of further delaying a game, developers are now forced by publishers to launch a half-baked, buggy mess with promises of post-launch patches. Why? Because these games still sell well, despite price increases and red flags everywhere.
