Originally announced in May, Foamstars is set to have an open beta event from September 29 at 6:00pm Pacific/9:00pm Eastern to October 1 at 11:59pm Pacific/October 2 2:59am Eastern. The open beta, playable worldwide, is free and exclusive to PlayStation 5 players. Those who participate will receive an exclusive cosmetic item for the character Soa when the full game launches in early 2024. Joining the open beta doesn’t require a PlayStation Plus subscription.

Square Enix’s take on Splatoon, Foamstars takes place in the vibrant world of Bath Vegas, a bubbly metropolis and home of the world’s biggest foam party. During the open beta, players can explore two distinct 4 vs. 4 game modes. They can also choose from eight characters: Soa, Agito, Tonix, Jet Justice, Mel T, The Baristador, Rave Breaker, and Pen Gwyn. Each character boasts a unique playstyle, specialized weapons, and game-altering skills.

The two game modes in the open beta are Smash the Star and Happy Bath Survival. In Smash the Star, players must battle it out to secure seven knockouts on the opposing team. Once that is completed, the best player on each team is chosen to be the Star Player. In order to win the match, teams must defeat the opposing team’s Star Player while also protecting their own. In Happy Bath Survival, the two teams each have a pair of infield players and a pair of outfield players. Outfield players must support and provide defense for their teammates, as each team tries to defeat both opponent infield players.
