The team behind the Game of the Year winner It Takes Two is preparing its next co-op game, Split Fiction. Today, Hazelight Studios and publisher Electronic Arts shared an official co-op gameplay trailer and details on the title that’s set to release on March 6, 2025. Split Fiction stars Mio and Zoe, the two characters that players will control in the co-op game. They’re both writers who are stuck in a simulation of their own stories, while visiting the new Rader Publishing headquarters. Essentially, an accident occurs that places Mio and Zoe inside the same shared simulation, but tosses them between their own sci-fi and fantasy stories. Meanwhile, Rader Publishing is trying to steal all of their ideas.

One feature in Split Fiction that the team shared more details about is Side Stories. These are anomalies that happen as a consequence of Mio and Zoe being stuck in the same simulation. Players will encounter these out-of-place portals, and entering them will take them to new and vastly different worlds and locations that are completely optional. While Hazelight didn’t want to reveal details about Side Stories, it did tease some of the experiences. They’ll range from a daring mountain climb to riding Sandfish across a desert or snowboarding down a mountain while under heavy fire. There is even a Side Story where players become pigs and discover exactly how sausages are made.

As a reminder, Split Fiction will follow in the footsteps of A Way Out and It Takes Two with The Friend’s Pass. Only one player needs to own the game in order to invite a friend to play online for free. Split Fiction will also introduce cross-play, so friends can play across PlayStation, Xbox, and PC. Having previously enjoyed A Way Out and It Takes Two, we consider Split Fiction one of our most anticipated games of the year, and this gameplay trailer has made us even more excited.
