Sabotage Studio has confirmed that the free update for Sea of Stars, titled Dawn of Equinox, is launching on November 12. The update introduces a brand-new local co-op mode, teased earlier this year, along with a revamped prologue, an additional cinematic scene, difficulty presets, and more. The game is introducing Mystery Locks, which create a new gameplay loop focused on revealing how to break enemy spells whenever a new type is encountered in battle. This is part of a broader combat overhaul that now allows Combo Points to carry over after battles.
Sabotage Studio also introduced the Speedrunner Mode Relic, which enables a range of features designed to help players aiming for personal bests or world records. Players can also choose from three difficulty options when starting a new game, with presets based on the game’s Relics. New Relics in the update will enhance both quality of life and difficulty adjustments, including an improved Parrot Relic that helps players track down missed challenges and collectibles. Additionally, a French-Canadian translation has been added to the game.
Sea of Stars will receive another free DLC in spring 2025, titled Throes of the Watchmaker. This update adds a completely new storyline, including a new playable character and more as an encore to the original game.
In my review of Sea of Stars, I praised the game for its contemporary twist on a classic formula, highlighting its memorable story and endearing characters.
