Over the years, Samsung monitors have won many gamers over, and now the Korean brand might be entering a new market. At gamescom 2024, Samsung unveiled Odyssey 3D, monitors that offer glasses-free 3D viewing. It’s similar to what Nintendo did with the 3DS, which some still consider a gimmick. Samsung’s technology will offer the best of both worlds, allowing users to seamlessly switch between 2D and 3D modes.

Odyssey 3D uses innovative light field display (LFD) technology to create lifelike 3D images from 2D content using a lenticular lens on the front panel. It combines that with Eye Tracking and View Mapping technology to deliver an optimized 3D viewing experience without the need for glasses. Movement of both eyes is monitored using a built-in stereo camera, while View Mapping constantly adjusts the image to enhance depth perception. Initially, the Odyssey 3D will be offered in 27″ and 37″ sizes, with 4K resolution and a 1ms gray-to-gray (GTG) response time. The refresh rate on these two monitors caps at 165Hz.

Along with unveiling the Samsung Odyssey 3D, the company confirmed it is expanding its Odyssey OLED lineup this year with three new models. The Odyssey OLED G95SD and G93SD models both deliver 5120×1440 resolution in a 32:9 ultra-wide screen format. Both monitors have an 1800R curved design, 240Hz refresh rate, and 0.03ms GTG response time. The third new model is the 34″ Odyssey OLED G8 (G85SD) with 3440×1440 resolution in a 21:9 ratio package. It also has an 1800R curved design and 0.03ms GTG response time but features a 175Hz refresh rate. The G95SD and G85SD both support Smart Hub and Gaming Hub.
