The first week of sales is in for ReStory, and tinyBuild says the electronics repair sim has moved 300,000 copies since launching on Steam on August 6. The reception has been just as strong, with the game sitting at Overwhelmingly Positive on Steam and hitting a peak of more than 19,000 concurrent players over the weekend.
Developed by Mandragora, the studio behind I Am Future, ReStory puts you behind the counter of a small electronics repair shop in mid-2000s Tokyo. It’s a simulator-type game, where you have a toolset you use to take apart, clean, and fix handhelds, phones, cameras, music players, and home appliances, along with nostalgic devices modeled on iconic game consoles. That includes officially licensed Atari systems, which is a nice get for a game built entirely around lovingly disassembling old hardware.
The devices aren’t the only thing that needs attention, though. Each customer who walks in comes with a branching storyline, and how you handle them changes where those stories land. One job might have you helping a lovestruck student work up the nerve to confess to his crush, while another has you turning up hidden secrets on a former gangster’s phone.
ReStory is available on Steam for $19.99, with 10 percent off until August 20. Mandragora isn’t done with it either, and the team says new story content and additional retro devices are in the works for future updates.
