Red Dead Redemption will be released as part of the Xbox One’s backward compatibility program on July 8, Rockstar Games has announced. Starting this Friday, every owner of Red Dead Redemption on Xbox 360 will be able to play the game directly on their Xbox One, regardless of which version of the game they own. For those that have yet to experience Red Dead Redemption, the game will be available for purchase digitally starting Friday.
Red Dead Redemption was originally released in North America on May 18, 2010 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. In the open world, western action-adventure game, players take on the role of John Marston during the decline of the American Frontier in the year 1911. Marston is a former outlaw whose wife and son are taken hostage by the government in ransom for his services as a hired gun.
The game was well received when it was first released and is widely considered one of the best games for the last generation of consoles.
