Yesterday, it was revealed that Blizzard Entertainment had trademarked “The Dark Below,” causing speculation that it was either the title for the upcoming Diablo III or World of Warcraft expansion. Blizzard has just made everything clear by putting up a teaser page for Reaper of Souls along with a quote from the Book of Tyrael stating “Death, at least, shall spread its wings over all.” Now, of course, we shouldn’t be expecting to see Kerrigan in Queen of Blades form showing up in the Diablo world, but this is clearly the title for the upcoming Diablo III expansion, which leaves “The Dark Below” to be an upcoming World of Warcraft expansion. It’s highly unlikely that Blizzard has a new IP up its sleeve.

That means in terms of scheduling, the official announcement for Reaper of Souls will come at next week’s Gamescom event (which Blizzard had already promised), leaving Blizzcon open for an announcement of a World of Warcraft expansion. Pretty exciting news coming for Blizzard fans, but the bigger question is, how long will we have to wait to see either of these expansions?

No official announcement regarding either of these titles have been made by Blizzard, but it’s pretty clear what’s in the pipeline.
