A new PlayStation 5 system software beta is rolling out today, featuring quality-of-life enhancements and new features for the console. Beta access to the new system software is limited to invited participants in selected countries. However, all PlayStation 5 owners should receive the update in the coming months after testing is complete. PlayStation has shared details on what those owners can look forward to with the new update.
For starters, the DualSense wireless controller is getting enhancements to its built-in mic and speaker audio. Aiming to enhance the controller’s audio features, the update will enable the controller speakers to produce louder sound, and the mic input quality is improved with a new AI machine learning model. PlayStation says that the DualSense software update will suppress background noise from button presses and game audio, resulting in a better voice chat experience.
The update also introduces Share Screen interactions, enabling players watching Share Screen to use pointers and emoji reactions to engage with the host’s gameplay. Viewers can also send a ping or draw a line on the shared screen to highlight specific objects or guide the host player.
Lastly, PlayStation 5 owners will finally be able to adjust the brightness of their console’s power indicator. The new Brightness setting will be found under Settings > System > Beep and Light when it launches.
