While God of War fans are arguing over whether or not Sons of Sparta is any good, Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios have shared a first-look image of Ryan Hurst as Kratos and Callum Vinson as Atreus for the upcoming God of War series on Prime Video. Production on the live-action adaptation has begun, which will be based on the latest God of War games. It’s being co-produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios, in association with PlayStation Productions and Tall Ship Productions. As of right now, we’re getting at least two seasons.
Like God of War 2018 and God of War Ragnarök, the Prime Video series will follow the father-and-son story of Kratos and Atreus as they set off to spread the ashes of Kratos’s wife and Atreus’s mother, Faye. The adventure will focus on Kratos trying to teach Atreus to be a better god, while Atreus tries to teach Kratos how to be a better human.
Joining Hurst and Vinson on the show are Mandy Patinkin as Odin, Ed Skrein as Baldur, Max Parker as Heimdall, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor, Teresa Palmer as Sif, Alastair Duncan as Mimir, Jeff Gulka as Sindri, and Danny Woodburn as Brok. Serving as showrunner is Ronald D. Moore of Battlestar Galactica and Outlander fame. He’s also credited as executive producer and writer.
