With Grand Theft Auto VI officially delayed to 2026, publishers and developers worldwide are now readying release date announcements for the remainder of this year. Sony did it last month by revealing Ghost of Yōtei is releasing on October 2, and now The Pokémon Company and Nintendo have shared that Pokémon Legends: Z-A is launching on October 16. This includes the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition with improved graphics and frame rates. Those who purchase either the physical or digital version of Pokémon Legends: Z-A for Nintendo Switch will have the option to upgrade to the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition with an upgrade pack, available on Nintendo eShop and My Nintendo Store.
Today’s release date announcement was accompanied by the game’s cover art, featuring the main characters and their partner Pokémon battling a Mega-Evolved Pokémon at night in Lumoise City. The next entry in the Pokémon video game series takes place in a single city and features action elements with a real-time battle system.
To get fans excited for the upcoming release of Pokémon Legends: Z-A, new Mega Evolution merchandise is going to be available at Pokémon Center, including apparel, accessories, plushies, and more. Starting today, giant pins featuring Mega Charizard X and Mega Charizard Y are available, along with apparel and accessories starring Mega Venusaur, Mega Gengar, Mega Lucario, and more Mega-Evolved Pokémon. Next month, players who preorder Pokémon Legends: Z-A at Pokémon Center in the U.S., Canada, or the U.K. will get a random Pokémon Sitting Cuties plush featuring Chikorita, Tepig, or Totodile as a gift with purchase, while supplies last.
We’ll learn more about Pokémon Legends: Z-A and other Pokémon news at the next Pokémon Presents presentation on July 22, 2025.
