The Pokémon Company has announced that Pokémon Legends Z-A has sold 5.8 million units globally in its first week, following its launch on October 16, 2025. Approximately half of those copies were on the Nintendo Switch 2, showing just how strong the franchise continues to be. Those sales figures include both physical and digital copies of the game. While it’s a solid opening for Pokémon Legends: Z-A, it has a long way to go before it catches up to Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet, which have sold 27.15 million units as of June 30, 2025. Behind those are Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield, which have moved 26.84 million units.

Pokémon Legends: Z-A is the second entry in the Pokémon Legends franchise, following Pokémon Legends: Arceus, which launched in 2022. Both titles offer a different take on Pokémon gameplay, with a bigger focus on real-time exploration and battles. Pokémon Legends: Z-A takes it a step further by introducing a cooldown-based battle system similar to what you’d find in MMORPGs or the Xenoblade Chronicles series.

As a casual Pokémon fan, I’m still making my way through Pokémon Legends: Z-A. I’m hoping to wrap up the game next week for a review. While it has been more engaging and fun than past entries, Pokémon Legends Z-A still feels a bit antiquated and formulaic.
