PlayStation Plus is embracing spooky season this October, with the Game Catalog adding several titles perfect for the month. Don’t worry, though; if horror games aren’t your thing, there are a couple of other titles that might appeal to you. All of the following games will be available starting October 21 for PlayStation Plus Extra and PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers.
Headlining this month’s lineup is Silent Hill 2, released in October 2024 on PlayStation 5. A remake of the 2001 classic, Silent Hill 2 comes from Bloober Team and has been well received by the Silent Hill community. Players get to revisit, or experience for the first time, James Sunderland’s story as he explores the mostly deserted town of Silent Hill.
Continuing with the horror theme is the latest version of Until Dawn, which was rebuilt from the ground up for PlayStation 5. The original was released in August 2015, and I found it to be an enjoyable experience, even if some of the writing was a bit cringe. I haven’t had the chance to check out the remaster to see the differences, but if you’re a fan of story-centric horror games, Until Dawn is a good time.
Next up is a game I have spent over 130 hours with on PC: V Rising. We originally started playing it when it entered Early Access, revisited it during large updates, and sank dozens of hours into it for its 1.0 launch. It’s an action RPG with crafting survival mechanics, where players take on the role of a vampire looking to take down Dracula. Combat in V Rising is surprisingly fun, with several bosses that can be tricky even with a group. In my V Rising review, I praised the addictive gameplay loop and player progression, but was a bit disappointed by its lack of a real story. V Rising will be available on PlayStation 5.

Taking a break from all the horror games is Yakuza: Like a Dragon on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. Starring Ichiban Kasuga, Yakuza: Like a Dragon was released in 2020 and arguably helped make the franchise popular in the U.S., despite being the eighth mainline installment in the series. It was the first Yakuza game with a turn-based combat system, which helps make it a great entry point to the series.
Going back to horror games, the next PlayStation Plus Game Catalog addition is Poppy Playtime: Chapter 1 on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. Featuring puzzle mechanics, Poppy Playtime: Chapter 1 has players exploring the factory of Playtime Co., formerly a toy manufacturer. They’ll have to figure out the mystery behind what happened to all the factory’s employees, who up and vanished one day, leaving behind vengeful toys.
Next up is As Dusk Falls on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. It comes from the lead designer of Heavy Rain and Beyond: Two Souls, so it’s not much of a surprise it has branching storylines. As Dusk Falls explores the lives of two families across decades, beginning with a robbery-gone-wrong in 1998. Those who love narrative and story-driven games will want to check this one out, as there are multiple outcomes.
The final title for this month is Wizard with a Gun on PlayStation 5. This online sandbox survival game supports up to four players and has them collecting, crafting, and equipping their wizard with weapons, bullets, and furnishings for their tower home. The game reminded me a bit of Don’t Starve Together and is especially fun if you have friends to play with.
PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers will also get Tekken 3 on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, bringing classic arcade fighting action to modern platforms.
