For a storefront that the internet claims is only used for free games, the Epic Games Store sure did see a lot of money flow through the platform in 2025. In its official 2025 year in review, the Epic Games Store confirmed $1.16 billion was spent by PC players on the store, marking a 6 percent increase over the prior year. Around $400 million of that was spent on third-party PC games in the Epic Games Store, which marks a 57 percent increase. The platform saw over 317 million PC users this year and nearly 972 million Epic cross-platform accounts in total. In December 2025, it recorded 78 million monthly active users, a jump from its yearly average of 67 million. On average, the Epic Games Store saw 31 million daily active users.
Total store gameplay hours dropped, however, to 6.65 billion, marking a 14 percent decrease. However, third-party gameplay hours did increase to 2.78 billion, marking a 4 percent improvement. This points to more people playing games other than Fortnite.
In other statistics, the Epic Games Store gave away 100 free games last year, with a total of 662 million claimed. The total redeemed value, based on U.S. prices, for last year’s games hit $2,316, and Epic says the average score across all free games was 78.
For this year, Epic is focused on delivering long-requested features and deeper platform improvements; it’s fair to say it still has a long way to go before it catches up to Steam. The first major step toward that is the addition of community spaces and enhanced cross-platform text chat, with features like avatars, player profiles, and private messaging. In the second quarter of 2026, we should see voice chat and game-independent parties added to Epic’s social framework. In fall, players will get cross-platform library support, along with regional storefronts and localized discovery.
