It’s not a huge surprise that Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) will want to take advantage of the new PlayStation 4‘s hardware, and plans to do so with its PlanetSide 2 title. Currently available on the PC as a free-to-play MMOFPS, PlanetSide 2 is one gorgeous-looking game if your computer can handle it. As for the game making the transition to Sony’s next-generation console, the developer is hoping to “take the PC game with maximum settings and have that be running on the PS4.”

The word comes from Matt Higby, creative director of PlanetSide 2, and would certainly boost the appeal of the game to the mass market. As easily accessible as PlanetSide 2 is currently as a free-to-play game, hardware requirements to play it smoothly isn’t something every household PC gamer has. With hundreds to thousands of players battling it out on the game’s massively large continents, many PC gamers choose to reduce their graphical settings to ensure smooth gameplay. But if SOE manges to pull off a great-looking game on PlayStation 4 while updating the interface to work better with a console controller, PlanetSide 2 will easily become a fan favorite among FPS gamers.

Sony Online Entertainment is targeting a PlanetSide 2 release for the PlayStation 4 within the console’s launch window.
