The Persona 5 series is heading to mobile and PC with a new entry called Persona5: The Phantom X. It’s not exactly new—having been available in China, Taiwan, and Korea since April 2024—but it will launch in Japan and Western markets on June 26, 2025. While it’s a gacha game, the community says it plays very much like Persona 5, and is generous with its mechanics. Whether monetization changes for its global release remains to be seen. However, based on this morning’s broadcast, the teams clearly want to preserve the core Persona experience.
Persona5: The Phantom X features a brand-new story and cast of characters that both Persona 5 fans and newcomers can enjoy. The story is set when the protagonist wakes up from a nightmare, thrust into a changed world that has been drained of hope. He’s joined by an eloquent owl named Lufel, a long-nosed man who Persona fans will recognize, and a striking beauty clad in blue. Joining the protagonist and Lufel in his group are Motoha Arai, Shun Kano, and Riko Tanemura. Of course, everyone’s favorite Phantom Thieves of Hearts are in the game, along with Phantom Idols who are the gacha characters.
In terms of gameplay, it follows Persona 5 accurately, with players splitting their time between living the student life and exploring the world of Mementos. The developers liken the ever-expanding cast to Persona 5’s Confidants—except in The Phantom X they’ll actually join you in battle—and each comes with its own personal storyline.
Like other modern mobile titles, a pre-registration campaign is now live with rewards based on the number of sign-ups. Look for it on the App Store, Google Play Store, and Steam.
