Path of Exile 2 developer, Grinding Gear Games, hasn’t been afraid to make big changes during the game’s development. Originally designed to be an expansion for Path of Exile, it was announced during ExileCon 2023 that Path of Exile 2 would now be a standalone game. The developer had anticipated releasing a beta on June 7, 2024, but has now confirmed a delay. Instead, alpha testing will take place in June and the beta is now expected to occur sometime later this year. Unfortunately, Grinding Gear Games does not have an exact date yet, but they expect it to be towards the end of the year.

Considering how long Path of Exile 2 has been in development and all the changes that have happened, the delay could be concerning. However, Grinding Gear Games has a significant opportunity to capture a larger portion of the ARPG market, given Diablo IV’s recent struggles. Similarly, another competitor, Last Epoch, experienced a challenging transition from Early Access. It comes as no surprise that the team is doing whatever is necessary to get the game just right.

Path of Exile 2’s beta is going to be delayed.

We previously said that we would get the beta out on June 7th and while we think we would be able to get the game’s content ready in time, we underestimated how long it will take to get gameplay polished to a standard we’re happy with.

We’re still going to be doing alpha testing in June, but we are going to be delaying the beta until later in the year.

We don’t have an exact date for you yet, but it should be towards the end of the year.
