Looks like Grinding Gear Games is running another free weekend for Path of Exile 2. When The Third Edict launched last August, the studio made the game free-to-play for the first time ever, and it’s repeating the move to mark the launch of Return of the Ancients on May 29.
The free weekend runs from May 29 to June 1, opening up access to everything currently in Path of Exile 2. That includes the new Runes of Aldur challenge league, two new Ascendancy classes in the Huntress’s Spirit Walker and the Monk’s Martial Artist, a redesigned Atlas Tree, and the rest of the endgame overhaul I covered when the update was first revealed. It’s available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
Alongside the free weekend, Grinding Gear Games is running a 50 percent off promotion on the Early Access Supporter Pack from May 29 through June 12. The pack includes full access to the game plus 150 points for the in-game store. So, if the weekend hooks you, you can save on what we consider one of the best ARPGs currently available. Players who jump in can also chase the Runes of Aldur league’s eight in-game challenges, which reward pieces of the Knight of Aldur Armor Set and a totem decoration for your Hideout. These rewards are purely cosmetic.
There’s also a Discord Quest tied to the promotion that grants a Runeseeker Avatar Decoration for playing the game for 15 minutes, available from May 29 at 10:00 AM Pacific (1:00 PM Eastern) to June 5 at 5:00 PM Pacific (8:00 PM Eastern). You’ll need to be logged into the Discord desktop app to track progress.
Path of Exile 2 took me by surprise when it first hit Early Access, with nearly 100 hours clocked in those first few weeks. I came back for The Third Edict last August for dozens more, and Return of the Ancients is the one I’ve been most looking forward to since the reveal. As I said when the update was announced, this is effectively the closing chapter of Early Access before 1.0. If you’ve been on the fence about Path of Exile 2, this is a good time to give it a shot.
