At Xbox’s January Developer Direct, Obsidian Entertainment offered its first comprehensive look into the gameplay, dynamic combat, and the “colorful, vibrant, strange” world of the Living Lands. Like previous Obsidian Entertainment games, Avowed focuses on deep themes and player choice. In the video, Game Director Carrie Patel is joined by Gameplay Director Gabe Paramo and Art Director Matt Hansen. The trio provides insights into how narrative decisions will influence the game and the variety of combat options available to players. Not only will weapons be varied, but players will be able to quickly change loadouts for enemy encounters.
Hansen explores how the Living Lands, a mysterious island, comprises varied regions with visually diverse backdrops and interesting settings for exploration. Players can expect secrets hidden throughout the regions, as they explore from barren deserts to verdant forests, blighted wastes to volcanic biomes.
Those eager to learn more about Avowed can tune into the Xbox Podcast on January 22 for an exclusive interview featuring several of Obsidian’s developers. Avowed is currently scheduled for a fall release on Xbox Series X|S and PC, and will be available on Xbox and PC Game Pass from day one.
