Nintendo has released its second-quarter financial results, confirming that the Nintendo Switch family has sold 146.04 million units, with software sales reaching 1.306 billion, as reported earlier today. In a Nintendo briefing, company President Shuntaro Furukawa confirmed that Nintendo Switch software will be playable on the upcoming Nintendo Switch successor. This is the first official confirmation from Nintendo that the next console will be backward compatible. Unfortunately, this was the only information Nintendo shared about the Switch successor, adding that more details will be provided at a later date.
There are plenty of rumors concerning the Switch’s successor, but very little has been confirmed by Nintendo itself. All we know is that it’ll be revealed on or before March 31, 2025, and now we know it will support Switch games. Hopefully, the new console will be revealed soon, but it seems Nintendo is focused on promoting sales of the current Switch for the rest of this year.
