The Nintendo Switch 2 has officially sold over 3.5 million units worldwide in the four days following its release on June 5, 2025. Nintendo confirmed this achievement represents the highest global sales for any Nintendo hardware within the first four days, essentially making it its fastest-selling console yet. For many, this isn’t much of a surprise, considering the original Switch has sold over 152 million units. But if you were listening to the internet, they’d have you believe that the $80 price for Mario Kart World was turning people away.

Let’s face it, this is Nintendo we’re talking about, and after learning its lessons with the Wii U, the company has been on a tear. Along with the success of the Switch, The Super Mario Bros. Movie has set records, and Super Nintendo World has been extremely popular at Universal Studios theme parks in Japan and the U.S., with the latest opening at Epic Universe in Orlando, Florida. The brand is continuing its expansion on the big screen, with a sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie in the works, as well as a live-action film based on The Legend of Zelda.

Obviously, the Switch 2 has a long way to go before it catches up to the Switch in terms of sales success. It’ll also largely depend on the titles heading to the console, but we’re confident Nintendo has several in the works, including the recently announced Splatoon spinoff, Splatoon Raiders.
