Nintendo aims to bring the excitement of the Nintendo World Championships into your living room with the July 18 launch of Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition. Inspired by the Nintendo World Championships competition, the game is essentially NES Remix 3, though not by that name. It features over 150 speedrun challenges taken from 13 classic NES games and players can set and beat their own best times in the single-player Speedrun Mode. For those with friends interested in speedrunning bite-sized sections of classic NES games, there is support for up to eight players in local Party mode. Nintendo Switch Online members can enter World Championships Mode to submit their best times in five challenges, which rotate weekly and feature a global leaderboard.

The game is packed full of speedrun challenges for the following NES titles:

  • Balloon Fight
  • Donkey Kong
  • Excitebike
  • Ice Climber
  • Kid Icarus
  • Kirby’s Adventure
  • Metroid
  • Super Mario Bros.
  • Super Mario Bros. 2
  • Super Mario Bros. 3
  • Super Mario Bros. The Lost Levels
  • The Legend of Zelda
  • Zelda II: The Adventure of Link

The digital version of the game will be available for $29.99, but a Deluxe Set priced at $59.99 will also be available at retailers such as Best Buy and GameStop. The Deluxe Set includes a physical version of the game, a set of five collectible pins, 13 art cards, and a replica of the fabled gold-colored NES Game Pak, which is unfortunately for display only.
