While most of this year’s summer gaming events have come and gone, Nintendo still hasn’t shared what it has in store for the rest of 2024. That changes tomorrow, June 18, when the Nintendo Direct livestream starts at 7:00am Pacific (10:00am Eastern). The show will feature around 40 minutes of Nintendo Switch games coming in the second half of 2024, and Nintendo will not be making any mention of the Switch’s successor during the presentation. We all know it’s coming, but Nintendo is focused on how it’s going to generate revenue for the rest of this year.

Speculation and rumors are rampant for this particular Nintendo Direct, but it’s best to keep your expectations in check. Nintendo has been relatively quiet about what games are set to release in the second half of 2024. Reports indicate that the Switch’s successor was originally set to launch in late 2024, and its delay to 2025 has caused Nintendo to adjust its release schedule. There will probably be a surprise or two as the current Switch is approaching the end of its era. There’s the obvious question of where Metroid Prime 4 is, along with whether Xenoblade Chronicles X will finally be ported to the Switch, or if that will be reserved for the successor. It’s probably safer to expect ports and remasters, which Nintendo has been handling excellently recently, with Super Mario RPG and Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door as examples.
