In peak Nintendo fashion, the company has just announced a surprise Star Fox Direct airing today at 3:00 PM Pacific (6:00 PM Eastern), with the announcement coming only minutes before the presentation goes live. Fans were not given any heads up ahead of time, which is unusual even by Nintendo’s standards for surprise drops.

The timing isn’t entirely random. Fox McCloud joined the cast of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie earlier this year, with Glen Powell voicing the character, and the Arwing pilot ended up with one of the bigger roles in the second half of the film. With the movie continuing to dominate the 2026 box office, it makes sense that Nintendo would capitalize on the renewed interest in the franchise, especially since the last mainline Star Fox release was Star Fox Zero on the Wii U back in 2016 (Star Fox 2 dropped on the SNES Classic in 2017, but it was originally developed in the 1990s).

We’ll be watching the Direct closely and will have full coverage shortly after it ends. Until then, here’s the embed.
