NieR fans, there may be some hope for a proper game announcement this year. Square Enix has confirmed that the NieR series 15th anniversary livestream will take place on April 19 at 2:00 AM Pacific (5:00 AM Eastern) and will run for approximately two hours and 30 minutes. According to Google Translate, the broadcast will provide the latest information on events and merchandise planned for the 15th anniversary, along with discussions from the franchise’s developers. There will also be a mini live musical performance during the program, featuring Shotaro Seo (pianist) and Takanori Goto (guitarist).
Unsurprisingly, the confirmed guest list includes series creative director, Yoko Taro, and series producer, Yosuke Saito. The Japanese voice actor for Pod 042 and Grimoire Weiss, Hiroki Yasumoto, will also be in attendance. Joining them will be series composer Keiichi Okabe, and senior game designer on NieR: Automata, Takahisa Taura.
Fans of the series are hoping we will finally see an announcement for a new mainline entry, and not another mobile title. The last major anniversary livestream took place five years ago for the 10th anniversary, which is when NieR Replicant ver. 1.22474487139… made its debut.
Recently, Square Enix confirmed that NieR: Automata has sold over nine million units worldwide. Originally launched in 2017, it is one of the best games I’ve ever played, and here’s to hoping we get more sooner rather than later.
