Kicking off today’s Nintendo Direct, Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto confirmed the next animated film set in the world of Super Mario Bros. will be titled The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. It turns out those original rumors that it would be titled Super Mario World were incorrect, as we’re leaping straight to Mario Galaxy with the next film. The announcement confirmed several actors are returning to reprise their roles in the sequel, including Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek. Unfortunately, we still don’t know who will be voicing Yoshi, who should appear in the new film given the final scene in The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
The decision to go with Galaxy likely stems from the opportunity to release Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 on Nintendo Switch, with a two-pack arriving October 2, 2025. The games will receive a free Switch 2 update that adds 4K support for both titles. Although no exact release date for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie has been announced yet, it will arrive sometime in April 2026. To celebrate the movie’s launch, Nintendo is also releasing two amiibo figures for Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2: Mario & Luma and Rosalina & Lumas. They are larger than standard-size amiibo and will be available on April 2, 2026.
