Last month, EA announced it would no longer be working on WRC games, which meant the license was up for grabs. It didn’t take very long for someone else to step in, as NACON has signed a new agreement with WRC Promoter to publish games based on the FIA World Rally Championship. The company will have exclusive rights on PC and consoles for six seasons, spanning from 2027 to 2032. Players can look forward to an all-new WRC game series, with official rallies, vehicles, teams, drivers, and sponsors. The company is treating it as a complete reboot of the franchise, based on an entirely new vision.
For WRC fans, the name NACON might be familiar, as the publisher was in charge of the WRC series between 2015 and 2023, with Kylotonn (KT Racing) heading development. The publisher has a wide portfolio of games, including the recent Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown and the rather unfortunate The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, which was developed by Daedalic Entertainment. Nonetheless, it’s good to hear the WRC series will live on and be in good hands for the next few years.
“After a comprehensive evaluation, we are delighted to have reached an agreement with NACON,” expressed FIA World Rally Championship’s Chief Marketing Officer Arne Dirks. “Their vision for the franchise stands out, and their expertise in delivering great rally games is unquestioned. We look forward to breaking new ground together in this collaboration, to truly turn the WRC games into epic adventures and offer gaming experiences beyond rally as we know it today.”
