The website aerithlives.com has made a curious appearance, featuring an image of Aerith from Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and a countdown timer that ends on December 11, 2025. Coincidentally, that’s the date for The Game Awards 2025, announced earlier today during Gamescom Opening Night Live 2025. Whether this means anything remains to be seen, but as someone who considers Final Fantasy VII Rebirth the best game I’ve ever played, I hope we hear news about the third entry in the Final Fantasy VII remake series at The Game Awards 2025.

The phrase “Aerith Lives” appeared in the 2012 film Wreck-It Ralph as graffiti on a wall, showing just how mainstream the character is. It takes on a new meaning after the events of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, which have left fans wondering what direction Square Enix plans to take to conclude the trilogy. As many gamers know, Aerith’s death in the original Final Fantasy VII is one of gaming’s most iconic moments, and the beloved character has won over many new fans through the remake trilogy.
