If you had told me in 2013, when Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate was released on the Nintendo Wii U, that 12 years later a Monster Hunter game would have over one million concurrent players, I would have wondered if it had gone with a free-to-play model. Despite some performance issues on PC, Monster Hunter Wilds reached over 1.3 million concurrent players on launch day, quickly making it the sixth most played game on Steam of all time. It edges out Valve’s own Dota 2, which has a record of 1,295,114. At the time of publishing, Monster Hunter Wilds’ all-time peak reached 1,307,976 players.
We expect the number to possibly grow over the weekend, and Monster Hunter Wilds is already in striking distance of the fifth spot, currently held by Lost Ark at 1,325,305 concurrent players. The game would have to appeal to a lot more people, though, to overthrow Counter-Strike 2 in the fourth position, which has an all time peak of 1,818,773 players.
We have managed to finish the campaign of Monster Hunter Wilds and will be spending the weekend playing together to clear everything else the game currently has to offer.
