After an accidental leak of the game’s release date, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater has officially announced that it is launching on August 28. It’s a remake of arguably the most popular Metal Gear Solid title, which leaves the original story and setting untouched but introduces numerous additions to the gameplay. Along with sharing a new trailer at today’s State of Play, Konami also shared details on some of these new gameplay features, including the previously announced third-person view. In the remake, players can choose between two different control styles, an over-the-shoulder third-person view (New Style) and the top-down viewpoint (Legacy Style) that recreates the look and feel of the original game. The team acknowledges that the Legacy Style camera and controls might be tricky to get used to, which is why it added the New Style so it feels familiar to modern gamers.
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater also adds a quick-select menu so players can change their camouflage easily. For those unfamiliar with Metal Gear Solid, different camo patterns help players blend into various environments to hide from enemies, but some have other helpful effects or surprises. Veterans will also be happy to hear that nearly all the Easter eggs from the original will make a return, including obscure mechanics and tricks, magazines, posters, and the hidden Kerotans. These will be joined by GA-KOs hiding throughout the game, and their camouflage will help them blend into their hiding spots. So along with the Kerotans being in the same locations as the original game, returning players can look forward to tracking down all the GA-KOs.
The game will also see the return of the Snake vs. Monkey special game mode, allowing players to once again try to capture the mischievous Pipo Monkeys from the Ape Escape series. More details on this gameplay mode will be shared in future announcements.
Along with confirming the game’s release date, Konami also said Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater will have PlayStation 5 Pro support. The game will take advantage of PSSR to enhance details throughout the experience, and while it didn’t specify a target fps, it did say the PlayStation 5 Pro will deliver smoother, enhanced performance even if the game’s set to Quality Mode.
Preorders for the game are now live, and it will be available in both Standard and Digital Deluxe Editions. The Digital Deluxe Edition includes the Sneaking DLC Pack and an exclusive 48-hour early access window, while preordering either version gives players the White Tuxedo uniform.
