Last night, most of the internet was talking about the shutdown of TikTok, but for some gamers, it was the unexpected ban of Marvel Snap. One of the titles on our list of the best free games, Marvel Snap comes from developer Second Dinner, based in California, and is published by Nuverse—a subsidiary of ByteDance. For those who have been following TikTok’s shutdown in the U.S., the ban applies to all apps from ByteDance, TikTok’s parent company. As a result, Marvel Snap got Thanos snapped in the U.S.
Players who try to access Marvel Snap in the U.S. are getting a similar message to TikTok app users, although there’s no mention of incoming President Donald Trump.
Sorry MARVEL SNAP isn’t available right now.
A law banning MARVEL SNAP has been enacted in the U.S. Unfortunately, that means you can’t use MARVEL SNAP for now. Rest assured, we’re working to restore our service in the U.S. Please stay tuned!”
Based on social media posts from Ben Brode, Chief Development Officer at Second Dinner, the developer is just as surprised as everyone else about the ban. In fact, Brode claims Marvel Snap’s publisher, Nuverse, didn’t see it coming either.
